ZPAGHETTI, UTGP & so on
HELLO i just need to share this amazing website i found from reading FRANKIE Magazine which RTT brought back from her trip to Perth for Perth Fashion Week! The magazine simply feels natural and has tonnes of unique, laidback features, with simple yet beautiful shoots.
From what i hear Perth sounds awesome. Pardon my lack of general knowledge, but all i thought about Perth was that its filled with cows. Turns out im half right because the place is SO sparsely populated and its much more of a town than a city, so you hardly ever have to get stuck in the hustle and bustle. all in all it sounds so awesome and i think i should find out more and fly there first thing.
The most awesome thing is it seems trends are practically nonexistent there. thats great. like rly.
ok back to the topic, let me be a good blogger and provide a screenshot:
ok a lousy screenshot tt doesnt make much difference lol
This website is www.zpaghetti.com.au/ and their main selling item is their yarn.
What i love about this yarn is how random it is. They are actually remnants of fabric from other items such as clothing (usually fabrics such as jersey) that is made into ‘Spaghetti’ (for anyone who sews, youd know ‘spaghetti’ means a length of fabric sewn along the edge and then flipped inside out to produce a tubular length of clean finished ‘spaghetti’).
Being cut from a whole range of places, the designs, colours and other characteristics of the yarn are totally unpredictable and thats what makes it so special! Youd have to watch out on the site to wait for something you might like to come along.
Ive always bought things based on my feelings and it feels so great to ‘discover’ something that just connects with you.
Its like thrifting for clothes, digging through old fabric stock, or buying my two Freitag bags; its just based on the feeling you get when you discover them and it feels like… youre having a CHILD lol, its a special feeling you know?
anyways, the best thing about this yarn is how thick it is. their yarn range from 0.8cm to 1.2cm in width and needs a crochet needle of at least size 10.
Its always puzzling to me that Spotlight sells such huge needles but the thickest yarn is only 12ply or something. anything thicker costs a bomb and i really dont blame the fact that knitting is dying out despite being such a wonderful hobby, because of how terribly high maintenance it has become in Singapore.
These yarns cost from AUD15.95- AUD 19.95. which is deadly cheap considering how big the bale is.
in addition, the designs are so kewl i think knitting anything at all with my eyes closed would produce a good piece of work ;D
AND, since the yarn is so thick, i can probably finish a project in a day.
MOREOVER, someones finally doing something that aids in the huge fabric wastage when we cut out our patterns.
being such a packrat, i keep all my fabric remnants -_- idk what i could do with them but i have a box full of them lol.

I actually joined UTGP this year; the theme was Coca Cola, and i decided to do something really simple.
i rushed out my design like super quickly though lol but still im gonna share it and here it is:

HAHA yes you cant really see much (and i know its not great :<). That was my design concept, a white on white print.
i cross-stitched the silhouette of a coke bottle on white fabric and scanned it in (yeah you see im a big fan of scanners) so you can see the creases in the fabric.
The concept was some sort of coke being so involved in our daily lives we dont even realise its there. coke has become part of us, just like a basic white tee being part of our closet, but not considered part of our outfits, well something along those lines, i shant put ppl to sleep since i didnt get through the first round and have no cause to share lol -_-

If you recognise this symbol then youve probably read the books.
Ive indulged the past few days reading this trilogy called The Hunger Games.
Im sure youve heard of it since its apparently hailed as ‘The Next Harry Potter’. WELL OBVIOUSLY it cannot beat harry potter in any way, especially in the thickness of the plot, character development, and most of all, writing style. The writing style is really simple and easy to understand (since it is after all, a childrens book), thus explaining how i finished it in a few hours.
Books like these about dystopic societies are apparently becoming very famous recently, and i got led to it from Brave New World which i was reading a while back. Hunger Games seems largely inspired by a japanese graphic novel known as Battle Royale, which ive heard a lot about but havent got the chance to read.
Another similar book which is ALWAYS unavailable in the Libraries is called The Uglies, which reflects a dystopic society as well, from what i heard. Handmaids Tale is also out in the libraries )-:
Anyway, The Hunger Games movie is premiering next year and i must say im SO disappointed in the cast. Im not surprised though because though the book is marketed as ‘The Next Harry Potter’, the movie is marketed as ‘The Next Twilight’ -_-. so yes, no surprises there.
The book is a really good, light piece of entertainment though so i do highly recommend it. I would gladly discuss the book with anyone willing to talk about it lol.
The brief summary of the book is the country in future (Panem) would be divided into 12 districts where district 12 reflects third-world conditions, and district 1 reflects our future. The hunger games is an annual event where each district ballots to send out 1 girl and 1 boy from age 12 – 18 to battle in a huge arena with conditions totally controlled by the Game Maker (including climate, water sources etc.). They are out to kill and the last person standing is hailed the victor. It is a huge event in Panem that is telecasted to the entire nation, and they have teams of stylists, and trainers, to package them to the crowd to gain popularity so sponsors can send ‘gifts’ to them during the Games.
Basically thats it, but obviously there are much more twists and turns to the plot, and personally i just hate the lovey-dovey emo parts which thankfully dont come frequently.

Ive been religiously digging up old mediacorp shows to watch because of how awesome they used to be. IMO, they totally went down the drain after they switched from TCS to mediacorp.
Of course, one of my main attractions to the shows are their stylists. The clothes from the past were so elaborate, well-matched, and bold. i guess the weather in the past didnt use to be so bad so they could layer and wear thick sweaters.
I really wish people still produced a full set of clothes using the same fabric. I saw so many cropped, drop shoulder tops with matching culottes, or vests and pants, blazers and shorts combis. I would die for any of those )-: they simply dont make clothes like they did anymore, or at least, singapore hasnt bothered bringing in ay of that. everyones just boring and black, drapes and ‘minimalism’- thats fashion my foot. take a look into your past and see what you have there. what happened to the tailored structure, colours, mismatched sets..?
I was so busy screenshot-ing the shows as i watched them and i would love to produce garments like that. well ive been around making a few but it stops there, will see if i have the time to shoot.
